Federal School Code Lists
Federal School Code (FSC) = Title IV Institution Code
Unique Entity Identifier (UEI)
The Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) for an awardee or recipient is an alphanumeric code created in the System for Award Management (SAM.gov) that is used to uniquely identify specific commercial, nonprofit, or business entities registered to do business with the federal government.
DUNS
DUNS stands for Data Universal Numbering System. It is a unique 9-digit identification number assigned to a company or organization by Dun & Bradstreet, Inc. A DUNS is required to register in the System for Award Management (SAM). An organization must be registered in SAM (and obtain a DUNS) to do business with the federal government. There is a separate DUNS number for each business location in the Dun & Bradstreet database. The DUNS number is random, and specific digits have no significance.
Office of Postsecondary Education Identifier
(OPEID)
Definition Identification number used by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE) to identify schools that have Program Participation Agreements (PPA) so that its students are eligible to participate in Federal Student Financial Assistance programs under Title IV regulations. This is a 6-digit number followed by a 2-digit suffix used to identify branches, additional locations, and other entities that are part of the eligible institution.

What is a Federal School Code, and how do I find it?
A Federal School Code Is always six characters: 0 (zero), G, B, or E followed by a five-digit number. For example, 003223 is the Federal School Code for the University of Oregon.
If you don’t know a school’s Federal School Code, you can search by selecting the state and entering the school’s name or city in the School Search.
If you are still having trouble finding a school code, contact your college’s and career school’s financial aid office. It is possible that your school does not participate in federal student aid programs and does not have a school code.
